Gross Revenues
The Penticton Airport generates an estimated
$24.73 million for the provincial economy. Of that total, the revenues generated
directly by organizations at Penticton Airport in 1998 are estimated to be $12.6
million. The Air carriers/Charter operator sector contributed the largest component,
generating an estimated $8.5 million of direct revenues last year.
The direct revenues for Penticton Airport have been calculated using the data provided
by the businesses and organizations located at the airport. Some participants could
not provide details regarding their operating revenues due to their company policies
concerning confidentiality. Both scheduled air carriers fall into this category, and
detailed estimates of their annual revenues have been prepared based on outbound passenger
statistics (by destination), and surveys of the lowest fares available at random dates
throughout the year.

The survey data collected from the study participants has
been adjusted to remove any incidence of double counting which occur when one airport
business is a supplier to another airport business. For example, aircraft refueling
is done almost exclusively by the on-site re-fueler,

Employment |
|
Penticton Airport activities sustain the
equivalent of 247.1 full-time jobs. This estimate includes the full-time equivalent
of all employment, including part-time and seasonal, generated by airport businesses and
organizations.
Provincial multipliers have been used to estimate the total employment generated by the
airport, based on the direct revenues produced by each airport
organizations. The
multipliers are applied to the direst gross revenue amounts (expressed in $millions)
for each airport sector to determine the direct, indirect and induced employment
estimates.
The "survey" employment figures presented in the table at the right represent
the data provided by the study participants. They differ somewhat from the direct
employment figures which were calculated using the provincial multipliers.
The variance between the two sets of data includes the off-site personnel employed in
support of the larger organizations' activities at Penticton Airport. (i.e., Canadian
Helicopters, AirBC, Central Mountain Air, Canadian Regional Airlines, Transport Canada,
Nav Canada and the Ministry of Forests. |

The total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) generated
by Penticton Airport is estimated to be $11.1 million. This figure represents the
value-added, or primary inputs, and is the sum of all payments made to the factors of
production (profits, wages, raw materials and taxes.)
While gross revenues are equal to the total generated by each producer within the
industry, GDP factors out the payments made between suppliers, and represents the sum of
the net contributions made by each organization. Just as a country's GDP is the
total of all value-added, or primary inputs, for all industries within that nation's
economy, the calculation of the GDP for Penticton Airport in this study is the sum of the
value-added generated by each of the organization within the airport
